Some jagoff on the radio the other day said that he showed his sons ages 11 and 13 these movies and they thought they were boring. And the host AGREED!! He said they just don't stand up to today's kids attention spans. I just can't believe this? Is this true or am I just really old and biased for thinking these movies are non-stop excitement?
It's true, they don't.
Not to tar all kids with the same brush mind you, my kids love the films.
But talking generally, I'd agree.
Kids are fickle though.
I recall showing my nephew (10 at the time) this film and he thought it was boring. A couple o' years later I took him to Dinsey World and we watched the live action Indy stunt show...and he loved it. From then on Indy became a hero of his and he started to enjoy the films more.
Do you not remember being a kid yourself, were there not films you didn't like then but do now and visa versa?
I know that applies to me.
I think a lot of it is down to connection - kids these days probably wouldn't understand/connect with Harrison Ford and the cultural references within. Ford would have resonated more with kids at the time because he was a star at the time.
If you show any kid an "old" film they'll go into it with certain pre-conceptions. There's the idea that anything "old" is boring anyway, like the prejudice people have against black and white films (despite Citizen Kane topping 'Best Of' lists!).
I know I felt that with some films my dad tried to show me when I was younger. It was only my maturity that made me re-visit them in time and appreciate them better.
I think that 'kids' these days expect a different 'vibe' than that presented in these films. Video games already bombard them with all the excitement they crave, so movies need to be about silly slapstick or Twilight love. (Vomit.)
Well I think first of all Raiders needs to not be classed as a children's movie. The action is brutal, the gore is grusome, the humour is subtle and the story is full of moments that someone younger wouldn't understand. That being said, I find Raiders to be fairly dull compaired to the other two so personal preference is a factor.
But compare Raiders to, say, Transformers, and I could see how someone would say it was boring next to the nonstop nonsense being fired at you. Not me though.
