How did the Libians find Doc? Prequel potential?

We don't really learn much about the doc's discovery of time travel and how the terrorists managed to find out about it and tracked him down.

Is there a prequel story out there? Isn't this a strong possibility for a prequel?

I don't think there is an official script or book for a prequel but there was a fanmade trailer from early this year
