Every single one of my friends who likes this movie uses the same "you just didn't get it" argument against me and act like it's the ultimate finishing blow. Believe me, I got it. Still doesn't stop me from thinking it's one of the most tedious films ever made.
There isn't much to get it. It's a fairly simple movie. For some people, like me, the combination of music and images brings out a response we don't get from other movies. If it doesn't have that effect on you, I can see why you would find it tedious.
If you don't like the movie that's fine, but i have seen some truly tedious films and trust me this isn't one of them.
Thank God I am not the only one who did not like this movie; I thought it was one of the biggest waste of my 133 minutes.
I am with you. The story is simple, metaphors overdone, the biblical references are so obvious yet the movie wants to you think otherwise. It had no connections to the real world to support its main story yet it used highschool life and conflict - something every common in everyone's experience - as a vessel to carry its ideas. Ultimately, it created a nauseatingly and painfully tedious experience for me, I thought I'd have a better time poking my eyes out with a pencil.
