This movie shouldn't be depressing at all.

For me the movie said I should be more aware about the difference between the things I want, and the things I need. But also the things I want to achieve. The things I want are not the same as the things I need. But wanting things gives us distraction of the things we need and the goals we want to achieve. I can be happy with the things I want, sure, for a while. But I can be fulfilled with the things I need and the goals I want to achieve. Durable fulfillment.
So the things that make me truly deeply happy, are the things that I need in my life and the things I want to achieve. But never stop doing fun, easy snack-good-feeling things. It energizes you. You sit down at the couch and watch TV because you have nothing else to do; or because you are relaxing. See the difference?
If I worked hard all day towards my goal, my contribution to the world, wanting to sit down on my ass and watch and relax tv, is also working towards my goal. Because relaxing is something I need, doing 'pointless' things will help me balance things out. I won't get overworked, I relax, let go of the things in the moment.

It's very important that you find what your path is in life and walk it. What's your purpose, and work to complete it. Lock yourself up and find it. It's gravely important. Because if you don't know what it is, nothing you do will be connected to each other in a way you don't yet know. To find out what it might be: What's your unique ability? What does give you and other's energy every time you do it and what do people admire in you? It's something you would do for free. That's a part of the path and purpose you have and give upon others. For every human, sharing your gifts gives you the greatest fulfillment. But before you share, makes sure you develop your gifts fully.

Also you need to know about the paradox. Being truly an unique human, and just a normal person at the same time. Understand this and embrace it. Does it mean you're worthless? No? Does this mean you're worth more than someone else? No. But you are the unique combination of elements that we haven't seen before. You can contribute something and be someone.

Side notes: A good friend will talk the truth to you, if he knows it's important to you. I too would choose truth above anything, because bearing the truth has made me the way I am. And I am proud of myself. And know that the world is a good place to live. Work to improve it even more.
