good movie otherwise. a 9/10. however, the (should be) emotional climax was botched in both the slavery vote scene and the assassination scene. so ultimately, a 7/10. thoughts?

well, the assassination scene was not part of the film; instead when the audience learns about it is with lincoln's son at another theater. however, I would say that I think the 13th amendment vote scene was the actual emotional climax, and the scenes of lincoln's death was just part of the so-called coda. Before the scene at the theater where lincoln's shooting is announced, there is a long, slow shot of Lincoln walking down a hallway just before leaving for the show, which I took to be a strong indication that it would be the last time lincoln would be alive in the film.
I thought having Tad react to the news of his father being shot was a great choice -- I actually teared up, watching the kid scream and grip the railing.
