it's also a Pan-American thrown weapon with 3 heavy stones attached by cord used to incapacitate prey, but I didn't think that was the relative term.

Look, in Israel we got in the military something called "חוט המוות" that in a free translate to English goes something like "string/wire of death", it's a sharp wire with to wooden pieces in its ends.
And the purpose is 4 quite killing...
Actually from what I heard nobody using it because it's much better, quicker and quiet just to stab the enemy in the nape...

I don't see any reason to build this device cause I was just pulling my gun and shoot the device a couple a times... It's just doesn't efficient and doesn't make sense... Good for Hollywood I guess :)

In real life, threatened people walks at least with a gun..

well, like i said, the main term would be the one for the machete like object.

And news flash, plenty of central americans and south americans living in mexico. Or you're saying the cartels only recruit mexicans?

I

but thats a central american expression, not mexican, i doubt the cartel would have tought of that, in mexico the slang terms for drunks would be borracho, briago, teporocho(if alcoholic) or pedo

"Bolito" is the diminutive for the word "bolo" in spanish.

Bolo is a machete like knife. Matter of fact, wikipedia says,

A bolo is a large cutting tool of Filipino origin similar to the machete, used particularly in the jungles of Indonesia, the Philippines, and in the sugar fields of Cuba.

Also, in central american countries, the world bolo means a drunken person.

In those countries, when somebody is acting in a drunken way, you say, "está bolito" or he/she is drunk.

Thus, you can now appreciate the "clever" use of the word. You can cut a person's head with a bolo/machete, and as the person is dying, he is kind of acting drunk, or like a bolito.

So I guess bolito is a take from the real thing, the bolo.

As a bonus, here is el Jefe (Ruben Blades), singing one of the salsa anthems from the 70's:
