its nothing but a cash grab, a way to make more monet by making the movie a whole goshdarn trilogy instead just 2 films. the book is not that long! LOTR's makes sense as a trilogy of movies since it was also 3 books long, but the hobbit? please.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

firstly, i LOOOOVE lord or the rings, and i have no problem with it being a longer journey. but i hope it wasnt just done to make more money from the audience by needlessly stretching it out to 3 films. quality over quantity.
No, the book isn't long enough to make into 3 movies. But, Jackson is adding a lot of stuff from the appendix of Return of the King, it explains what Gandalf was doing when he kept leaving Bilbo and the dwarfs. There's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes in the Hobbit, and I'm sure if you liked LoTR you'll enjoy a more in depth approach to the book with all the background sub-plots going on.
If you enjoyed the LoTR trilogy, why wouldn't you like MORE middle earth stories that were happening while bilbo was traveling to the mountain?
